Revoto
My role: Lead Designer
Time: 2023
The idea
Revoto is an AI-powered mobile application designed to significantly enhance photo quality. It focuses on restoring clarity by reducing noise and blur, and brings old memories to life by expertly colorizing black-and-white images.
The Onboarding Experience
Revoto's initial user flow ensures a smooth start: a contextual pre-permission screen builds trust before requesting photo access. Users are then guided through photo selection and feature choice. Key interactions, like the 'Before & After' comparison, are introduced via a timely, visually distinct tooltip, exemplifying a progressive disclosure approach to onboarding.
Enhancing an image
Once a user chooses an enhancement type, such as 'Enhance', Revoto transitions to a branded loading state. This screen prominently displays the animated 'R' logo with a reassuring message about the ongoing AI processing, managing user expectations during this time. Subsequently, users are presented with the enhanced image, complete with an interactive 'Before/After' slider for immediate comparison and options for saving or further upscaling the result.
Payment Screens
Features a clear offer screen detailing value props, tiers, and free trial options, designed for both conversion optimization and compliance with store pricing/auto-renewal display policies. The flow includes a branded animated processing state and a positive success confirmation screen.
Dialogue Sheets
This collection showcases Revoto's approach to in-app communication, emphasizing clarity, context, and a user-friendly tone. Key examples include:
Rating Prompts: Utilize the brand mascot with varying expressions to add personality and provide tailored messaging and calls-to-action based on the user's rating (e.g., internal feedback vs. App Store review).
Contextual Error States: Clearly communicate specific issues like payment failures or connection loss using relevant icons, concise explanations, and actionable recovery options (e.g., 'Retry Payment', 'OK').
Informative Dialogues: Address warnings (e.g., potential enhancement issues) or system statuses (e.g., server maintenance) with straightforward information and simple confirmation actions.
The overall design aims to keep the user informed and guided, maintaining a helpful and on-brand experience even during errors or feedback requests.
Conclusion & Reflection
The Revoto project was a valuable opportunity for hands-on practice, particularly in implementing interface animations and experimenting with diverse layout solutions. Exploring different ways to structure the photo enhancement workflow and animate feedback allowed me to refine skills crucial for creating engaging and intuitive mobile experiences.
